WSJ: Apple reportedly orders 10 million ‘iPad minis’ for Q4

Apple has yet to confirm the existence of a smaller iPad, presumably called the iPad mini, but that hasn’t stopped all the rumours. Even when Apple stated they would “double down” on security, majority of the rumours and leaks for the iPhone 5 turned out to be true. This time with the iPad mini release it’s expected to sport a display of 7.85-inches and come in around the $300 price point.

Last week sources to the Wall Street Journal stated that iPad mini production has started and we could expect Apple to announce a media event on October 17th, then launch the smaller tablet in time for the holidays on November 2nd. The WSJ is back with additional info, claiming that “Some component suppliers to Apple in Asia say they have received orders to make more than 10 million units of the smaller tablets in the fourth quarter.”

If all the rumours are true then the ‘iPad mini’ will take on other 7-inch tablets such as the BlackBerry PlayBook, Samsung Galaxy Tab, Google’s Nexus 7, Amazon’s Kindle Fire, and Kobo’s upcoming arc tablet – all these are priced well under $300.
